Bugs in Baby Formula

Abbott Laboratories recalled millions of its Similac powdered infant formula after finding bug parts in the products. The contamination comes from one Michigan plant where warehouse beetles or their larvae were found.

According to the FDA, “while the formula poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort.”

Abbott posted a list of lot numbers for the recalled containers on similac.com. 

“If consumers have formula being recalled, they should discontinue use of the product immediately and visit a local store to purchase a Similac liquid or an alternative infant formula to feed their child, “ responds Abbott.
